Duties

Help
  • Serves as Chief, Oversight Branch, and supervises a team of senior investigators who conduct oversight reviews of senior official investigations conducted by Inspectors General of the Military Departments and Defense Agencies.
  • Independently conducts sensitive, complex investigations into allegations involving the most senior DoD officials, and other special assignments as directed.
  • Monitors and evaluates staff investigative efforts and quality of written reports for compliance with established timelines, regulations, and policies.
  • Conducts preliminary inquiries to define the scope of the investigation and determine whether the allegations require further investigation.
  • Conducts on-site investigations using a broad range of investigative techniques.
  • Produces written reports of investigation containing: facts and evidence established in each case.
  • Produces an in-depth analysis of the evidence in light of applicable law, rule and regulation; conclusions regarding the propriety of the action(s) at issue; and recommendations for appropriate corrective action.
  • Serves as the main liaison with the Inspectors General of the Military Departments and Defense Agencies regarding senior official investigations conduct by their offices.
  • Monitors progress of investigations and provides feedback regarding the quality of investigative reports.
  • Briefs DoD OIG management, other senior DoD officials, Members of Congress and their staffs on the status and results on investigations, oversight reviews, and special projects.

  • Position has been designated as Special Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
  • If you have not previously completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.

Qualifications

Specialized experience requirements as noted below.
GS-15
Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-14 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: experience serving as team lead, planning and managing all aspects of an investigation, and writing investigation reports. Must have experience researching Federals laws and regulations; compiling evidence through formal interviews and review of documentation; analyzing evidence; and drafting written reports. Must also have the ability to conduct statistical analysis and make recommendations for improvements based on trends identified during the conduct of investigations. Must have experience assigning work, managing staff performance, and leading a team. Must also have experience using information management programs, to include: word processing, presentation programs, and spreadsheet/database software.
