CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE IDAHO ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

This position is located in the OCTC (Orchard Combat Training Center) in the (RFM) Range Facility Maintenance Division, Directorate of Plans, Training and Mobilization of an Army National Guard Major Training area. The purpose of the position is to exercise supervisory responsibility of the training and work operation of the RFM Complex. The occupation and grade that best represents overall work operations is Maintenance Mechanic, WG-10.

Planning. Plans and schedules specific work assignments on a daily or project-to-project basis within specified time requirements. Arranges for adequate personnel, materials and equipment to accomplish the work.

Work Direction. Recommends selection of workers and assigns tasks to be performed. Explains prescribed methods and procedures, instructs subordinates on new procedures and provides assistance on problems. Reviews work in progress and upon completion. Obtains approval from supervisor for changes in standard or prescribed procedures and changes in work operations. Suggest to supervisor ways or methods to improve operations or reduce costs.

Administration. Recommends individuals for promotions, reassignments or to fill vacancies. Assist in the establishment of performance standards and makes performance appraisals. Counsels employees on disciplinary issues and recommends action. Attempts to resolve informal complaints and grievances, referring unresolved or more serious issues to supervisor. Conducts on-the-job training and recommends employees for formal training programs. Recommends approval or disapproval of leave. Encourages employees to participate in suggestion or cost reduction programs. Responsible for safety and housekeeping in the work place. Explains and implements such personnel programs as equal opportunity, position management, position description review and labor manage relations. Maintains production reports and records.

Works with other technicians and sets the pace in performing the duties within the Multi Purpose Range Complex.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain Secret Security Clearance within one year of employment.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE
:
Work involves maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, cement work, painting and other related trades.

Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, you must have at least 36 months of experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
