As a Forensic Accountant with the DOE Office of Inspector General, you would be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
1. Providing financial analysis support to Criminal Investigators tasked with conducting complex criminal and administrative investigations into alleged misconduct, including cyber crime .
2. Collaborating with Criminal Investigators in planning and gathering evidence into criminal and noncriminal cases of the highest importance to the Department of Energy.
3. Assisting Criminal Investigators in preparing for interviews of witnesses and subjects. Accompanying investigators on interviews in nonvolatile situations and contributing to the gathering and clarification of information related to financial activities.
4. Analyzing and reviewing documents and financial activities to identify instances of fraud.
5. Providing significant input and writing portions of search warrant affidavits, subpoena requests, and criminal indictments based on investigative findings.
6. Testifying at hearings and criminal trials when necessary.
Successful completion of a background and security investigation.

This is a drug testing designated position.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.") ORCombination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT - A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must possess the specialized experience that has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include:
Providing financial analysis to support investigations, applying forensic auditing and accounting techniques to detect fraud and online fraud schemes, identifying and analyzing the nature of allegations, developing and preparing standardized work papers for use in investigations, and testifying at hearings and criminal trials.
