The mission of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), an agency in the Research, Education, and Economics (REE) mission area of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is to invest in and advance agricultural research, education and extension to solve societal challenges. NIFA staff provides national leadership and support for science, extension, and education programs and other cooperative activities in the food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences disciplines. NIFA’s vision is to catalyze transformative discoveries, education, and engagement to address agricultural challenges. NIFA is committed to identifying and meeting research, education, and extension priorities as legislated by the Congress and in accordance with the USDA and NIFA Strategic Plans.
The Budget Staff is responsible for the formulation, direction, oversight, and execution of the NIFA budget functions in support of the diverse national research, education, and extension programs.
Note: Veterans who were precluded by their military service obligation from meeting the 2-year requirement above, will have an additional full 2-year period of eligibility upon release or discharge from active duty. In no event, however, may the individuals eligibility period extend beyond 6 years from the date on which the individual completed the requirements of an academic course of study.
Recent Graduate appointments are intended to last for 1 year. Recent Graduates who satisfactorily complete the USDA Recent Graduates Program and meet all eligibility requirements for conversion may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent appointment in the competitive service. Recent Graduates converted to Term appointments may later be non-competitively converted to a Permanent competitive service position.
The duration of the Recent Graduates appointment in the excepted service is the trial period. Prior Federal civilian service may be creditable toward the completion of the required trial period.
Major Duties:
You must be a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident and foreign national who meets immigration law and appropriations law requirements concerning employment.
Must be 16 years of age and meet Federal, State, and Local laws governing the employment of minors.
