Duties

Help

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serves as the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) Chief Security Officer for information systems and OIG information systems administrator.
  • Plans and implements and maintains a secure electronic environment at OIG headquarters and field locations in compliance with federal laws, and regulations.
  • Performs network administrator duties and security officer responsibilities.
  • Supervises employees with information technology responsibilities, develops work, and training plans, forecasts workloads for the group and provides input to the OIG's capital planning process.
  • Serves as OIG network administrator and provide comprehensive network engineering support for OIG's local area networks (LAN), and Virtual LAN environments.
  • Plans and develops information security program goals, objectives, priorities, and budgets to ensure that security is integrated into the life-cycle management of information technology.
  • Manages all aspects of the OIG's information technology security program at the Chicago, Illinois headquarters location and all field locations in compliance with federal laws, regulations, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and agency direction.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS - GS-14

Qualifying applicants must have Supervisory IT Security related experience that demonstrates possession of each of the four competencies: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. Your experience should include: conducting analyses and recommending resolution of issues affecting complex assignments; installing and trouble-shooting software upgrades for a department; providing advice and guidance on a wide range of IT issues; and testing and optimizing the functionality of systems, networks, and data.

AND

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - GS-14

Qualifying applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties: 1) leading a team of IT Specialists and provides administrative direction on program objectives and the overall effect of advice and influence on information security; 2) evaluating, recommending the acquisition of, implementing, and disseminating IT security tools, procedures, and practices to protect information assets from security risks; 3) planning and conducting security accreditation reviews for financial management systems; and 4) making recommendations for new or revised security measures and countermeasures based on the results of accreditation reviews.
