Duties

This position is located in U. S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), in Washington, DC.  The incumbent of this position provides expert analytical and technical authority in engineering to originate and perform analytical studies and evaluation projects pertaining to the energy industry.  Assignments involve development of new or novel data analyses systems, operations and functions of major Department of Energy, and national or international impact, for which precedents are lacking and specific attributes must be developed and tested.

As a General Engineer GS-0801-13 you will:

  • Serves as a technical expert with respect to all phases of engineering in particular mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Assumes responsibility as project leader for the development of project planning, coordination of overall team efforts, and maintaining appropriate lines of communication.
  • Conceives, initiates, monitors and/or conducts major planning and evaluation projects and studies of continuing and future energy distribution requirements and production capabilities.
  • Implements a comprehensive range of continuing analyses and research assignments involving energy production technologies, and their interrelationship to the economy.
  • Represents the organization and participates with key officials, senior technical personnel within the agency, and in private industry to assess production problems and negotiate mutually acceptable solutions on matters of national and/or international importance at planning conferences and other related meetings.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  • Demonstrated experience in applying general engineering and project management principles to analyze and evaluate energy production and supply operations.

  1. Mastery knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of at least two professional engineering disciplines with significant application in energy industries, including (but not limited to) electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical, environmental, materials, or industrial engineering.
  2. Skill in interpreting and evaluating engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data in order to verify project and study information.
  3. Knowledge of project management principles and concepts in order to complete projects, organize and lead study teams, and to execute projects and/or studies within established financial and time constraints.
  4. Knowledge of standards, methods, practices and techniques, materials, and equipment applicable to energy production and supply operations in order to understand the energy market place.
  5. Skill in written and oral communications in order to represent the organization.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
