The Fayetteville VAMC is seeking a board certified or board eligible Ophthalmologist to practice general Ophthalmology in its Surgery Service. Retina or glaucoma specialists are also encouraged to apply. Excellence in patient care is mandatory. The incumbent is accountable to the Chief, and Associate Chief, of Surgical Services for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art ophthalmologic care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards. The Ophthalmologist will work as part of the eye care team, and will manage the eye care needs of a population with high complexity ocular pathology consisting of cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal and diabetic eye diseases.
The Ophthalmology Section of Surgery Service functions under the overall management of the Section Chief of Ophthalmology. The physician functions within an interdisciplinary staff consisting of general ophthalmologists, part time subspecialists, 3 ophthalmology residents from the University of North Carolina, 5 optometrists, technicians, administrative and clerical staff.
He/she is responsible and accountable for ensuring the provision of comprehensive surgical/clinical services and complies with established policies within the Department of Surgery/ Ophthalmology section. Excellent surgical and laser skills are required. Teaching surgery and supervising residents in the operating room are required. Cataract surgery will most commonly be performed, but retina or glaucoma trained specialists are strongly encouraged to apply. The clinic and operating rooms at the Fayetteville Health Care Center are newly outfitted, opened in November 2015.
Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work in a staff model environment with other physicians serving Veterans. The Ophthalmologist will follow ophthalmology standards of care and safety policies, and implement opportunities to improve environmental and operational safety per Joint Commission guidelines.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
