Duties

Help
  • You will operate as part of a mobile, field survey party.
  • You will ensure assigned work is completed on schedule according to applicable guidelines.
  • You will convert collected field data into data compatible with software programs for preparation of reports and computations.
  • You will maintain proficiency in surveying and computer-related disciplines and stay abreast of new technology and methods.
  • You will plan and distribute the workload among party members; make adjustments in scheduling and personnel as required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in conducting field surveys such as geodetic, topographic and hydrographic. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Survey Technician.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS-08: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting field surveys such as geodetic, topographic and hydrographic. Apply the application of CADD and GIS technology in the preparation of deliverables. Utilize computers and computer applications to download and process survey data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Survey Technician.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

GS-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes processing LiDAR data sets. Assist in performing surveys in accordance with laws and regulations. Assist in planning, scheduling, and directing various stages of a survey. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For GS-9 grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

This is a TERM appointment and it may be extended for up to a total of 6 years. Contingent to specific conditions, there may be an opportunity to be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
