Duties

Help

Completes requests and submits personnel actions to hire and  terminate temporary employees. Ensures all new hires’ paperwork is completed and submitted. Monitors leave reports, researches discrepancies, and prepares leave audits.  Provides employee assistance in a variety of agency databases such as payroll, training and performance appraisals.

Monitor’s payroll reports, ensuring all employees are paid. Tracks the training program, ensuring the unit is meeting required deadlines. Tracks and monitors the completion of performance appraisals for the Unit.

Purchases supplies as needed using the appropriate purchase method.  Reconciles/audits credit card, assuring that proper procedures are met. Tracks and maintains the Unit’s office supplies, maintains spread sheets on inventory, reviews expenditure records to compare prices increases, etc., and tracks budget costs.

Enters time and attendance for temporary employee’s not assigned a government computer account. Creates and maintains spreadsheets, tracking the location of all official records on the Unit, including all off site buildings.  Enters information into the regional database, complying with yearly audit requests.

Communicates temporary hiring selections to the servicing team. Assists with temporary employee orientation.

Responsible for incoming and outgoing correspondence, maintains electronic filing system and pertinent references, manuals and handbooks.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level;  bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; and/or combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Examples of specialized experience are: Accurately typed correspondence/reports; Used database or spreadsheet software to accurately enter, revise, sort or calculate, and retrieve data for standard reports; Read and processed incoming correspondence and material; Checked for accuracy and filed material based on knowledge of filing system; Answered routine questions and provided information; Prepared, submitted and tracked requisitions of office supplies.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND FINGERPRINT CHECK: Selection and retention in this position is contingent on a successfully adjudicated FBI National Criminal History Check (fingerprint check) and a background investigation.

Forest Service daycare facilities are not available.

Direct Deposit - Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of your choosing.

You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. Applicants with veterans' preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans' preference within each category.
