As a Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant (Level 5), CY-1702-02, the incumbent:

  • Serves as a team leader for program staff with responsibility for the operation and program in accordance with applicable regulations in one or more CY programs;
  • Maintains control of and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth;
  • Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques; and
  • Instructs team members in specific tasks and job techniques; makes available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.

Position-specific Conditions of Employment

1. All required background checks of AR 215-3, Chapter 2, paragraph 2-13:

  • Obtain and maintain Childcare National Agency Check with Inquires, which includes State Criminal Repository Checks (reverified every five years);
  • Installation Records Checks (reverified every five years);
2. Submission of DA Form 2981, Basic Criminal History and Statement of Admission (Department of Defense Child and Youth (C&Y) Programs) (annual requirement)
3. Physical evaluation, including immunizations (annual requirement);
4. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis;
5. Complete all required training within allowed time; and
6. Report all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.

General Conditions of Employment
1. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
2. 4. Incumbent must be available and flexible to work the hours anywhere from 5:45 am until 5:45 pm.

Qualifications

This position requires the incumbent to posses specialized experience to be minimally qualified, which includes:

1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate AND
2. Two years of specialized experience working in a group program with children or youth plus an associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours with a major course of study (24 semester hours) in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or directly-related behavioral or cultural science (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology, sociology of the family, gender identity, parenting).

Education

For this position, you may substitute the following education or training for education and experience requirement listed in the Qualifications section:

1. Possess and maintain a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential; OR
2. A bachelor's Degree or at least 120 semester hours with a major course of study (24 semester hours) in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or directly-related behavioral or cultural science (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology, sociology of the family, gender identity, parenting).

Additional information

You will be asked to select which location you would like consideration. You must be in the commuting area of the selected location.

This position is a regular full-time (RFT) position, which guarantees 40 hours per week. This is a bargaining unit position.

180-day Restriction for Military Retirees: Military retirees are unable to be appointed to NAF positions for 180 days after their retirement date, as documented on their DD-214. Military retirees who, by 10/26/2018, have been retired from the military for more than 150 days may apply; however, they will not be appointed until they have reached the 180 day mark. Waivers will not be granted for Child and Youth Program Assistant positions.
