Duties

Help

1. Plans, organizes, and executes a wide range of complex activities for the wing/center Commander's Inspection Program (CCIP), and the Exercise and Inspection Program. Responsible for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and ensuring the best interest of the Air Force and Airmen needs are met. Guides and trains wing/center personnel in inspection/exercise requirements, and assigns technical projects/tasks to team members. Provides direction and oversight of internal and external inspections, audits, evaluations, reviews and exercises to determine unit effectiveness and efficiency, and to ensure standardized, robust inspections and self-assessments are conducted.
2. Develops, integrates, and directs the wing/center inspection planning activities. Manages complex programs/projects, plans, and identifies difficult issues requiring modification to existing policies or processes; performs analysis for potential mission impact; develops alternatives and/or resolutions to deficiencies; and negotiates conflicting positions to ensure consensus from senior leaders.
3. Manages the integration of multi-disciplinary resources necessary to support wing/ center tasks and projects. Identifies future resource needs (to include facilities, equipment, and personnel), and implements strategies to support future inspections/exercise plans and projects. Coordinates with ANG/IG and GMAJCOM/IG to secure resources and funding to support Staff Assistance Visits (SAVs), Inspector Augmentees (IA) and on-site visits.
4. Performs thorough analysis of unit capabilities versus inspection requirements to determine the most efficient exercise and inspection scenarios which minimize costs and maximize unit readiness. Orients the CCIP to focus on commander's objectives, and incorporates/confirms corrective action plan completion into the inspection plan.
5. Represents the IG with a variety of wing, functional area, local community, state and federal organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with DoD/IG, SAF/IG, ANG/IG, MAJCOM staffs, and wing leadership at all levels on matters concerning Air Force and Air National Guard inspections. Represents the IG and the Inspections Directorate at conferences, meetings, seminars, briefings, and other official functions.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: All series personnel must be competent at the next higher level before being eligible for that level. An applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Defined as specified experiences that prepared the applicant to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities, with the required competency level, as defined by the applicable position description. Each applicant must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for dual status technician appointment to one of the six Series GS-1801 program positions with its applicable career level, as cited on pages two and three. Applicants must have the experiences, education, or training that demonstrates the ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, policies and procedures. Applicants must demonstrate the ability or have endorsements that indicate the ability to perform and learn the cited duties.

For Supervisory Positions, Apply the Following Specialized Experience: Must have experiences in planning and scheduling work in a manner that promotes smooth flow and even distribution of assigning work requirements. Experienced in training and guiding employees on programs and through assigned tasks. Experienced in balancing office case work-loads and providing advice, guidance, and direction on a wide range of policies, investigative requirements, inspection formats, exercise strategies, strategic planning, and administrative issues. Experienced in structuring assignments to create effective and efficient procedures that resulted in measuring improved task processes. Previous supervisory experiences created improvements in training applications and career development that resulted in the employees' increased performance values in quality work, timeliness considerations, and work efficiencies. Demonstrated experiences or endorsements on mentorship competencies provided to employees. Must have working knowledge of equal employment and affirmative action programs.

Quality of Experience: Qualifications are not based solely on time. Qualification factors include experiences in previous Series GS1801, General, Inspection, investigation, Enforcement, and Compliance program positions. A candidate's competencies are evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria, awarding requirements for military skills, and military skill training schools are always followed. The applicant's total military service experiences, military and civilian performance records, resume, training certificates, and educational accomplishments must show possession of the competencies needed to fully perform GS-1801 work. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the competencies needed to fully perform the duties of the applicable position description's duties and responsibilities. The applicant must qualify for awarding of the established compatibility criteria that includes the military skill assignment, military rank, and military unit of assignment. The applicant's experience levels, training background, and education must demonstrate a comprehensive competency needed to perform the dual status Series GS-1801 position at its designated grade-level.

Military Requiements:To successfully qualify for a Series GS-1801 position, the applicant must first qualify for awarding of the designated compatible military skill assigned to the Series GS-1801 position description. A military skill's qualification is established and directed by the applicable service classification and qualification requirements. Upon selection, an applicant is assigned to the designated compatible and authorized manpower military skill position in accordance with Army or Air Force manpower policies, skill classification directives, statutes, and National Guard Bureau regulations. The Dual Status technician must successfully complete all required military technical schools; and, maintain all skill development training to develop competence levels to include civilian and professional military education requirements. The technician qualifies for appointment to the GS-1801 position through civilian and military work experiences, along with his or her civilian and military education. Specific qualification requirements, to include mandatory medical, physical, psychological, and security clearance criteria, must be strictly adhered to as directed by the Army and Air Force regulations or directives cited in the reference list. For the Air National Guard Compatible Military Skills, use the designated Special Duty Identifier (SDI). This type of skill is used to identify position authorizations for officers and enlisted assignments that perform specialized tasks on a semi-permanent or permanent duty basis. These duties are defined as SDI skill sets because the relevant duties and tasks are not related or directly aligned to any specific Air Force specialty utilization field and skill.

Education

If you are using Education to qualify for this position, an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory. The degree work should include completed academic courses in business management, English grammar and composition, speech, statistics, public administration, human resources administration, organizational development, public administration, behavioral social sciences, and psychology. A graduate degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.
