Summary

About the Position: Serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist (EPS) for the Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. The EPS serves as the Environmental Compliance Assessment Team Program Manager to ensure Fort Carson's units (military, contractors, and tenants) comply with Fort Carson's Environmental Management System and regulations concerned with the protection of public welfare and the environment.

Duties

Help
  • Oversee and provide guidance to the Environmental Compliance Assessment Team in the performance of environmental assessments of processes, training, and activities and to ensure compliance with Fort Carson environmental requirements.
  • Review existing and proposed environmental regulations and guidance issued by HQDA, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and other literature relative to Fort Carson?s environmental program.
  • Assist in developing and conducting various environmental training pertinent to the requirements of current installation priorities and practices.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must pass a physical examination to include a pulmonary function test pre-employment and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state and government driver"s license and be able to operate vehicles up to one ton.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a 40-hour HAZWOPER course and obtain HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Incumbent serves as a member of the Installation Spill Response Team and may be required to be on call.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience applying environmental standards to assure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and policies; experience preparing and reviewing environmental documents such as Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), etc.; and experience performing environmental assessments, reviews and inspections.

Education:
successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.)

Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.)
