As a ARCHIVIST at the GS-1420-11/12 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Serve as the Archivist for the DoD Visual Information Records Center. Integrate archival theory, practices and procedures into DVI policy for managing media or visual information materials.
Assess the VI holdings, both the physical and digital VI records, to ensure effective and efficient archival management, and to develop new collections, finding aids, and organization methods in which to increase the accessibility of the content.
Conduct archival/historical research for those VI records having incomplete record information. Ensure the metadata information for all VI holdings is completed via the asset management system employed by the DMA enterprise and featured on DIMOC.mil for DoD and public use.
Manage VI records per the VI Records Schedule, to include the acquisition, accessioning, transfer, and destruction of these records.
Establish and maintain a professional relationship with NARA, Library of Congress and other institutions or industry leaders, to keep DVI-DIMOC innovative in the care and management of VI records.
Coordinate with DoD VI managers to develop, recommend and implement the operational elements of DoD policy regarding accessioning of VI media records.

Incumbent will be required to complete the National Archives and Records Administration Federal Records Management Certification program within 18 months of arrival.
Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:
Working as an archivist with photographic or video records.
Utilizing the metadata of the digital records to organize and manage the media within workflows.
Conduct complex historical research illustrating the cause and effect, and other contextual impacts or influences in determining the relevance of the records for the collection overall.
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service:
Working with photographic or video records.
Understanding the integral nature of the metadata associated to these records and their purpose within a workflow.
Ability to conduct research online utilizing primary and secondary sources
OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1420 series.
Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
