Help

The Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) is the trusted network for homeland security mission operations to share sensitive but unclassified information. Federal, state, local, territorial, tribal, international and private sector homeland security partners use HSIN to manage daily operations, support events of all sizes, run exercises, and manage incidents. HSIN user share the information they need to do their jobs and help keep their communities safe. HSIN supports every mission area across the homeland security enterprise.

The primary purpose of this position is to creatively grow and oversee the HSIN communications program using multiple mediums with a focus on alignment with department, program, and customer mission goals. A key part of this position is developing and implementing an effective communications strategy for the MSSD designed to win the support of major stakeholders and strengthen brand reputation and recognition. Understanding and monitoring customer trends and types of system usage based on mission needs is a key part of this position.

As a Writer Editor GS-1082-13 GS 1082 13, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Utilizes multi-media communication vehicles to develop and deliver effective communications and messaging for the Agency program, and in collaboration and sync with Agency programs, projects, investments, efforts and strategies.
  • Establishes communication standards, manages content of all communications vehicles, and develops and administers the communications documentation repository.
  • Works closely with program outreach and mission integration and with policy and planning section heads.
  • Develops and implements, in coordination with Program Managers, an effective communications strategy for the Agency in collaboration and sync with the balance of the Agency, win the support of major stakeholders and strengthen brand reputation and recognition.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level performing duties such as performing research to define and explain agency policy, programs, research findings, and/or requirements; writing and/or editing documents and other general or technical material; presenting issues or research results in relation to agency policy and objectives; evaluating and adapting publishing procedures to changing technology; and developing and planning projects.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

This position will be filled at the full performance GS-13 level.
Selectee will be required to complete an OGE 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Form.
Permanent Change of Duty Station (PCS) Expenses will not be paid.
