Duties

Help
  • You will make recommendations on natural resources (i.e. range, soil, fire, plant, wetlands, and vegetation management) to modify or mitigate proposed actions to eliminate or minimize impacts to natural resources.
  • You will review proposed organizations actions for potential impacts to sensitive plant and their habitats, sensitive habits and ecosystems, and other sensitive natural resources.
  • You will plan, develop, and implement natural resources/land management studies, rare plant surveys, vegetation classification, invasive plant management, vegetation mapping, and habitat restoration projects.
  • You will develop and implement multiple habitat restoration projects, develop and implement the invasive plant program including Early Detection and Rapid Response, and develop statistically sound vegetation monitoring projects.

Qualifications

GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS - 07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), and Invasive Plant Executive Order 13112 planning and documentation process, applying habitat restoration and invasive plant management principles and techniques, and using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS - 09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing work that involves developing and implementing habitat restoration and invasive plant plans with any of the following - invasive plant, soil restoration, or ecological monitoring.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Applicants must possess a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline appropriate to this position.
OR
A combination of education and experience in one of the above majors that includes at least 24 semester hours in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline related to this position plus appropriate experience or additional education.
The quality of the combination of education and experience demonstrates that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four year course of study with a major as described above.

GS-09: In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education, as follows:
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline appropriate to this position.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

GS-11: In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education, as follows:
Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline appropriate to this position.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

Work may involve hiking over uneven terrain, stooping, bending, balancing, working in an awkward position, wading in streams, ponds, and lakes, crossing moving water, climbing hills, trees, and structures, crawling, movement through dense vegetation, and remaining in sitting or lying position for long periods. Work may occasionally involve lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Work involves being exposed to dust and dirt from field land restoration programs and working in areas that have rattlesnakes and various poisonous and dermatologically sensitive plants.

The incumbent works in undeveloped areas containing poison oak, stinging nettle, insects, soft or rocky substrates, and potentially dangerous wildlife. Work in developed areas is often in parts of buildings/structures that are not designed as working areas. Some work ay be in close environments or poorly illuminated environments.
