This position is located in the Office of Inspections. The Office of Inspections (JE) is responsible for independently and objectively analyzing and evaluating GSA's programs and operations through management and programmatic inspections and evaluations that are intended to provide insight into issues of concern to GSA, Congress, and the American public. In addition, the office formulates, directs and coordinates the quality assurance function of the OIG and undertakes special projects and analyses as required by the Inspector General.
As an Auditor, the incumbent performs the following responsibilities:

Basic Education Requirements: Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.");
OR,
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
Specialized Experience:
To qualify for the GS-0511-13 level, a candidate must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-0511-12 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has prepared the applicant with specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized Experience for this position is experience conducting complex audits applying the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS); playing a significant role in analyzing and evaluating management issues and problems relating to inspections, evaluations, and quality assurance; developing strong justifications and/or recommendations and alternative solutions; and, participating in the review of operating policies and procedures associated with risks.
All Merit Promotion applicants MUST meet time-in-grade restrictions. Time-in-grade means having at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level of the grade for which you are qualified.
