Duties

Help

As a Digital Imaging Technician, GS-1001-6, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Scans hard copies and determines page sequencing and special set-up requirements to select duplicating system settings and appropriate equipment for the job, i.e. single stitch, dual stitch, tape binding, multi-up, or signature booklet maker. Modifies electronic media as necessary to ensure the best product possible. Programs job specification into system and makes necessary adjustments based on quality of originals. Inspects sample output copies for quality, sequence, and adherence to specifications of completed project. Completes production run as specified on print request.
  • Operates one or more digitizing devices to capture image files of a range of materials, including loose and bound paper documents of all sizes, photographic prints and film, and three dimensional objects.
  • Performs ongoing checks of their work to confirm lab standards are being maintained. Uses a variety of software applications to operate digitizing equipment, process image files, conduct quality checks, enter data, communicate with colleagues, and submit administrative information. Clean and maintain work areas and perform general operational maintenance of equipment.
  • Submits image files to automated image processing applications or may perform basic, predefined image processing to individual files. Insert supplied metadata into software tools or into image files directly. Tasks will be carried out in accordance with the specifications, policies, and procedures of NARA and the Federal government, as well as any applicable industry standards.
  • Stores images in system until ready for printing or repetitive print orders on tape for future retrieval and use. Selects system features and options required to complete the job according to specifications.
  • Reviews print requests to determine delivery date, type of paper stock, color, and image position. Ensures material required is available or on order. Prioritizes print orders to meet deadlines. Ensures efficient and effective use of equipment.
  • Sets up appropriate controls for various enhancement features (e.g., screens) and job specifications (i.e. stitching, single side, two sided, etc.) of documents according to customers print request.

Qualifications

GS-06: Candidates must have had one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-05. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience for this grade level include: working on all aspects of scanning operations; preparing documents for digital scanning; scanning documents; reviewing converted electronic images for quality assurance to ensure high quality images and data capture; performing indexing, creating metadata to describe images, and final verification and delivery of images and related output files to customers.
