Duties

Help
  • Supervise, oversee, research, plan, write, executes, and evaluates a wide number of communications plans, operations plans, and community relations plans, with an emphasis on plans producing measureable results.
  • Develops messaging, communications plans and supporting media and products for targeted audiences.
  • Serves as a coordinating element for communications with the MTFs to ensure the DHA messages and information are told to internal audiences to effectively communicate the Military Health System message.
  • Coordinates with the marketing and education team at DHA headquarters to ensure messages and products are disseminated.
  • Assesses media coverage of activities and recommends methods and techniques for disseminating information that will increase public awareness and stakeholder support.
  • Develops and applies new approaches to complex public affairs problems of the Military Health System.
  • Provides crisis communications planning support and advice on the impact of activities.
  • Deals with complex issues and problems on a recurring basis.
  • Supervises and directs communications and marketing activities at the DHA Intermediate Organization.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position may require the incumbent to complete a one year supervisory probationary period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing complex medical public affairs duties, to include, coordinating and implementing strategic communication messages, developing communication plans, assessing media coverage, etc.; preparing
speeches and briefings for senior leadership; identifying and resolving a variety of complex public affairs issues and/or problems; and providing
advice and guidance to senior leadership on all public affairs and communication issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of
work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
