The individual selected for this position will:
Work to develop and implement original and creative public programs for diverse audiences that promote the educational mission of the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) and illuminate the History of Congress and the Capitol. Such programs are structured to meet the educational goals of the CVC for adult, family and youth audiences and incorporate best practices in museum education.
Consider the demographics of the CVC’s audiences and develop program content appropriate for various age groups and cultural backgrounds. Apply knowledge of education standards and styles of learning to program development. Research and write program content. Assist with identifying program related assets such as images, footage, supplies and props. Prepare and implement programs in a wide variety of formats including lectures, seminars, symposia, family days, film series, educational games, informal engagements, cart programs, specialty tours and professional development institutes, among other formats.
Collaborate with the Division’s education staff, Visitor Services management and the Volunteer Coordinator on the development of programs for delivery to the public. Provide training to CVC employees and volunteers on techniques for program presentation, delivery and logistics.
Research audience visitation patterns and adjusts schedules accordingly. Prepare schedules with appropriate descriptive information for the Director, CEOVS and for the Communications and Marketing Division to incorporate into multiple public awareness channels.
Review prior audience evaluation studies to identify new avenues of inquiry. Develop and administer evaluation studies of limited scope for onsite programs.
Contribute to the development and design of exhibits, including their use in public and educational programs, in furtherance of successful incorporation of education and program goal
Act as project lead, coordinating the input and actions of diverse teams of people within and outside the organization for the successful delivery of public programs.
Take the initiative to research and develop public programs focused on adults, families and youth that illuminate the History of Congress and the Capitol and that support the content of Exhibition Hall. Collaborate with colleagues in the Exhibits and Education Division, the CVC and outside partners to develop, implement and administer public programs and activities to achieve specific audience and organizational goals and outcome measurements. Acts as onsite “stage manager” for public events and programs. Develops and maintains positive relationships with outside program partners. In collaboration with Division staff, evaluate the fitness of prospective partners for programs involving the CVC and provides recommendations to the Director. Collaborate with appropriate AOC entities to ensure required technical support for programs (electrical, audio visual, information technology, labor, room set up) is available.
Act as Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative for Public and Educational Program contracts of the Division. Prepare purchase requests for educational and public program supplies and services. Provide data to support the preparation of program budgets, budget justifications and estimated costs of program needs.

Specialized experience for this position includes:
(1) Coordinating the logistical elements required to schedule and carry out public programs for adults, families and youth in an informal learning environment such as a museum or visitor center;
(2) Researching, developing and implementing historical and/or civics-oriented, formal and informal programming in multiple formats (symposia, family days, film series, professional development institutes, lectures, etc.) for a variety of audiences; and
(3) Working with a wide variety of stakeholders to develop and implement public programs.
