This position is located in the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Mission Support Team (MST), Chief Information Office (CIO). The incumbent is an Information Technology Specialist in the Systems Integration Division, Data Management team, and will be responsible for the design and maintenance of critical OIG data and databases.

Duties

Help

  • Serves as a senior-level expert in establishing, maintaining, supporting, and upgrading databases and their associated architecture and environment to include SQL Server Policy-Based Management and windows clustering, and provides consulting in database design, set-up, maintenance, systems integration, and operating systems.
  • Designs and administers production and non-production databases and performs physical data modeling, creation, normalization loading, performance tuning, and monitoring of the databases.
  • Defines data flow, identifies and translates user requirements into data design, and provides design documentation for decision support.
  • Provides daily oversight of database systems including establishing and managing database accounts, privileges and resources, and assurance of security and data integrity.
  • Analyzes current and future agency strategic plans, operating plans, policies, and procedures; and provides support to Information Technology management staff on a variety of issues relating to database management.
  • Performs installation, upgrades, configurations, and patch application for database environments and supports system operations and application use including performance monitoring, system tuning, and help desk call support.

Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Unless you have already completed a creditable probationary period, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.

The incumbent must be able to acquire and maintain an Information Assurance Manager Level II certification in accordance with DoD 8570.1-M.

The incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with Department of Defense (DoD) OIG. Organizational entities with the DoD are not required to conduct drug testing for DoD civilian employees moving by transfer or reassignment from one DoD Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another TDP with no break in service within the DoD, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis by the gaining Component.

The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: You must have IT-related experience demonstrating attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: providing database technology support to users and managers; developing and presenting recommendations for technology program improvement; coordinating database development and implementation; and leading technical projects.

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications. These competencies include:

  • Knowledge of enterprise data architecture, systems engineering, and database design
  • Knowledge of logical data models
  • Skill in data modeling
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server 2016 and Windows Server 2012 (or newer versions)
  • Ability to write stored procedures, triggers, and T-SQL queries
  • Skill in oral communication
