Summary

This position is located within the State Aviation Office at the Dallas Army Aviation Support Facility in Dallas, TX. The purpose of this position is to manage the Operations and Training Section of the AASF and to perform flight instructor duties. The incumbent supervises 3-12 aircraft light instructors, flight engineers and flight operations specialists.

Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Aircraft Flight Instructor with the Texas Army National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Directs and coordinates all light operations and training activities at the installation and supervises the AASF Flight Operations Section.
  • Plans and assigns work to be accomplished by 3-12 subordinates in grades through GS-13.
  • Plans, establishes and updates the standing operating procedures required for the safe and efficient operation of aircraft and transient aircraft.
  • Instructs and evaluates pilots in operating light or heavy, fixed or rotary wing aircraft.
  • Trains and evaluates pilots in basic or advanced instrument flight procedures characterized by a substantial degree of hazard and using the technique of
    operating an aircraft through reference to instruments as well as visual reference to the terrain and horizon.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Army National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Applicants who are not already on-board employees with the Texas Army National Guard do not meet eligibility for this position.

Areas of Consideration: In-Service. This includes:

  • All currently employed full-time permanent personnel of the Texas Army National Guard.

Incentives: Acceptance of a military Federal technician position may result in termination and / or repayment of military incentives. Please check your contract and contact your servicing Education Services (Incentives) office or the Recruiting/Retention office.

Remarks:
  • Temporary Promotion for a current permanent on board technician for one year at a time, not to exceed two years. Time limitation may be removed from the Temporary Promotion at a later date without further competition.

Military Requirements

Compatible Military Assignment (per UMR): Applicant must be Duty MOS/AOC/Branch assigned to a compatible position in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations upon selection. If selected and not currently Duty MOS/AOC/Branch assigned, entrance on duty date will be delayed until assignment in the appropriate Duty MOS/AOC/Branch is verified.

Qualifications

To be considered for qualification, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:

Specialized Experience Required

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting 36 months experience in instructing others in a specific main-frame/military aircraft such as: fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft. You must also have experience in a variety of piloting administrative tasks such as: mission tasking, intelligence reporting, applying weather information, filing of flight plans, conducting crew briefings. Additionally, must have experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments and mission manning.

Education

Minimum Education Requirements:

Second and First Lieutenants must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree with at least 90 validated credit hours in a specified program.

Captains and above must already have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university.

AND

You must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from an accredited civilian aviation program or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
