The U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Nevada is currently seeking an Assistant United States Attorney to serve in the Civil Division and to focus on affirmative civil enforcement, financial litigation, and asset forfeiture. This work includes pursuing civil actions against those who engage in fraud, violate federal laws, or damage federally owned property. The U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Nevada has been an active player in the financial litigation, asset forfeiture, and affirmative civil enforcement communities for decades and is committed to protecting the United States, its agencies, and victims of crime through the effective prosecution of asset forfeiture, financial litigation and affirmative civil cases. The attorney will have responsibility for handling all aspects of investigations and cases, including reviewing evidence, taking testimony, writing briefs, and appearing in court at hearings and trials. The attorney may also handle other types of cases as needed.

The attorney must be devoted to justice, excellence and representing the public. In addition, the attorney must have excellent writing skills, a strong work ethic, and outstanding organizational skills. The attorney must also be able to analyze complex legal and factual issues and pay careful attention to facts and details. The attorney must work well both independently and on a team and must be willing to assist other attorneys on an as needed basis. The position requires an attorney who can negotiate fairly and effectively with opposing counsel and who can advance persuasively the United States' position in court hearings and trials.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate wi[[ have three or more years of post-J.D. experience. The candidate should possess excellent legaI research and writing skills and demonstrate superior organization and public presentation abilities. The candidate should also have significant computer and computer software literacy and familiarity with criminal procedure, in particular Fourth Amendment law and the use of other investigative tools. Candidates should have an outstanding academic record and litigation experience, including exceptional courtroom skills.

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $61,812 to $161,676 which includes the locality pay.
