What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

As a Biologist within the Western Ecological Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:
- Participates in the planning and execution of complex studies and investigations on the Stephens' Kangaroo Rat (Dipodomys stephensi).
- Performs data analysis on the Stephens' Kangaroo Rat (Dipodomys stephensi) and writes reports to evaluate findings.
- Plans, organizes, and implements limited biological investigations that affect the Stephens' Kangaroo Rat (Dipodomys stephensi) and their habitat conditions.
- Recommends minor modifications to program objectives and associated documentation in accordance with established program directives.
- Gathers, organizes, and interprets biological, ecological, pathological, public use data, or other information pertinent to research studies and/or investigations.
Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
Selectee may be subject to serving a one-year trial period.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?
Taking and passing a pre-employment medical examination at Federal expense is required due to the physical demands of this job.
You will be required to operate a government-owned or -leased vehicle in the performance of your official duties. Applicants for this position must meet the following requirements: (1) possess a valid State license, and (2) possess a safe driving record. If selected, you may be required to provide proof of a valid State license and a copy of your driving record.
Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.
Examples of GS-5 level experience could include: making laboratory determinations of water quality parameters on biological samples; applying biological concepts and basic principles in related natural science fields; collecting basic field investigation data; preparing and operating equipment that collects samples and biologic data; preparing samples; and analyzing, compiling and computing biological data. The tasks performed at this level were routine and usually entailed readily identifiable phenomena and environmental conditions; and the work was closely controlled and assigned with clear, specific, and detailed instructions as to the methods, procedures, and guidelines to use.
To be basically qualified for this position, applicants must meet the OPM qualification standard (above) and the following selective factor(s): Are you currently authorized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to independently conduct activities for the Stephens' kangaroo rat (Dipodomys stephensi)?
