Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday (hours range from 7:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M.)

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch, Day Labor and Custodial Section. The selectee is a Fork Lift Operator (Laborer), responsible for performing forklift operation and laborer/recycler duties.
Major Duties:
Operates forklift truck with a capacity of up to 10, 000 pounds to load and unload, stack and unstack, move boxes, crates and loose items. Avoids overloading or improper stacking of movement of supplies and materials.
Keeps the entire loading dock clean at all times and inspects all the powered equipment daily as required. Ensures that all shipments received at the loading dock are delivered to, and received by the point of contact.
Cleans both the interior and exterior of the House Office Buildings, including floors, walls, porcelains, commodes and windows using power equipment and normal household-type cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, sprayers, shampooers, mops, sponges, and brooms. Uses abrasive stone to clean and smooth marble surfaces and polishes brass articles.
Provides set-up and support for special events. Sets up dining areas or Committee rooms in various configurations for many types of events. Sets up equipment and furniture according to work orders or instructions and rearranges existing furniture as requested.
Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies and heavy construction building materials to and from trucks by hand truck and dolly. Collects trash and debris, including horticultural debris, from the exterior of the buildings and surroundings grounds. Performs other tasks such as clearing snow and ice from building entrances, spreading salt, and picking up litter.
Assists the trades shops personnel by performing duties such as holding materials which will be modified or installed; cleaning work areas at the end of the day; transporting tools and materials from shop areas or storage areas to job sites and other similar work places.
