Duties

Help

As a STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION ANALYST at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Serve as a Strategic Communication Analyst in the Director's Action Group which works directly for the Joint Staff's Director for Joint Force Development, a 3-Star Officer.
  • Responsible for developing and uniting the Director's vision, strategy, and narratives into consistent and compelling messages for internal and external audiences via various communication venues.
  • Lead/participate in strategic communication development and execution activities. Develop or assist in developing and integrating senior/executive-level briefings, correspondence, analyses, and external documents for the DJ-7.
  • Oversee and manage the assembly of necessary background material for use during senior level meetings and conferences.
  • Lead/participate in team synchronizing efforts or work individually managing processes and performing activities supporting the goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Facilitate General Officer/Flag Officer/Senior Executive Service internal communications processes (e.g. meetings, document flows, staff collaboration activities) across multiple information technology mediums to facilitate and enable J-7 strategic engagement plans and activities.
  • Advise leadership on a variety of organizational, joint, and national defense issues or problems including cost/benefit analysis, organizational design, process improvement, and changes to organizational policies and procedures that are out-of-date or not operating at a maximum efficiency.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Develop and administer strategic communication programs utilizing strategic communication techniques in order to create ways to develop and articulate key themes and messages for communication that support strategic objectives.
  • Providing persuasive arguments to influence acceptance and recommendations of changes for an organization that involve representatives from across an organization to establish a reliable and integrated strategic communication process.
  • Utilize program management techniques in order to develop high performing teams supporting research which includes reviews of strategic guidance/direction and other strategic communications from senior leaders.
  • Lead project management practices in order to provide advisory and support services to an organization which assists leadership in articulating strategy and goals to members ensuring line of site and ensure strategic messaging aligns with overarching agency goals and strategy.
  • Conduct complex analysis to advise leadership on a variety of organizational, joint, and national defense issues or problems including cost/benefit analysis, organizational design, process improvement, and changes to organizational policies and procedures that are out-of-date or not operating at a maximum efficiency.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
