As a Deputy Director for Communications, GS-0340-15, you will serve as key member of the Office of Communications executive leadership team as one of two Deputy Office Directors, spearheading both internal and external communications on behalf of the Agency, both tactically and strategically.

Duties

Help
  • Serve as a Deputy Director in overseeing, leading, and managing CMS' national public information/public affairs program.
  • Analyze interrelated issues about CMS communications programs that affect the public, particularly the methods CMS uses to communicate mission-critical information to target audiences through various communication channels and vehicles.
  • Direct project teams to ensure project management, quality management, performance, risk/issue management are integrated within the program and closely followed.
  • Ensure that the Office's work supports CMS' and HHS' strategic plans, mission, vision, and values.
  • Oversee technically complex projects and initiatives related to external communication activities for government programs that are of significant interest to the public and Congress.

In order to qualify for the GS-15, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) leading the external communications program for an organization; (2) advising senior level officials on a range of communications strategies and public affairs issues; and (3) leading or managing the work of project teams.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
