Summary

Help

The individual selected for this position will report on and promote NIST's research efforts and programs via the agency's social media accounts. Adapt already written content (e.g., web content, press releases, video, speeches and more) and create original content for posting and promotion in social media channels. Create social media calendars that align with public observances and NIST priorities. Participate in planning and carrying out social media campaigns. Monitor social media channels for comments and questions and work with subject matter experts to craft appropriate responses. Analyze and present user data from NIST's social media channels. Research and present information and data on social media trends and best practices. Ensure social activities meet federal digital policies and guidelines. Work as part of a collaborative team.

All applicants MUST submit two (2) writing samples that clearly demonstrate the ability to write about complex chemistry, engineering, physics, or information technology/cybersecurity research concepts in a clear and engaging style for a general, non-technical audience. Writing samples can include articles, video scripts, podcast scripts, or multiple social media messages tied to one social media campaign.

Time-in-grade/band requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement unless eligible for special hiring authority, reinstatement eligible, non-current Federal employee applying as a VEOA eligible which do not require time-in-grade/band.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 (ZA-I at NIST) in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience writing and editing content for communicating science and technical research topics to a variety of audiences in lay language, in a journalistic style.

OR

Master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related

OR

A combination of education and experience


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

This position allows you to qualify and be considered based on your education.
