The selectee for this position will serve as an HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS PRODUCTION DIVISION at NAVFAC Northwest.

Duties and responsibilities vary and may increase according to the grade level. This Public Notice may also be used to fill target grades (e.g. WG-08 Target WG-10).

Duties:

- You will plan, carry-out, troubleshoot and repair, high voltage generating, controlling, and distribution systems, such as repairing switch gear, installing and hooking up transformers, locating defects in cables, or selecting materials to make installations or repairs.

- You will read and understand circuit diagrams of interconnects such as the generators, buses, switches, and circuit breakers in a power-generating facility or the feeders, substations, transformers, and interconnections of a distribution system to diagnose problems.

- You will test equipment such as: oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, phase rotation meters, digital test equipment, and cable locating and fault finding equipment.

- You will diagnose and determine corrective action for electric power-controlling equipment such as switch gear, transformer banks, and circuit breakers in substations and power-generating facilities.

This position has promotion potential to the WG-10. If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

May require special certification or license if assigned work requires special certification or licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools or equipment.

Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.

May be assigned to any basic work week or shift hours, including alternating shifts.

This position requires the employee to travel occasionally away from the normal duty station.

May be subject to recall and/or work nights, weekends and holidays.
