Duties

Help
  • Comprise a variety of factual background information on developments or trends significant to the topic or intelligence goals.
  • Evaluates all available intelligence information pertaining to a complete but limited topic or assigned area of study.
  • Selects and reviews relevant data from classified and unclassified library resources, foreign equipment, documents, photography, raw data, and databases.
  • Prepares routine research study reports, or contributes to sections of major study documentation, statistical compilations, or other intelligence materials.

Qualifications

GS-07: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service that included experience such as: assisting in intelligence gathering operations related to program activities; conducting interrogation and debriefing techniques in order to gather information and evidence.

OR 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.

GS-09: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that included experience such as: performing analysis, assimilation, and evaluation of all available intelligence information relating to assigned area of responsibility; selecting new and pertinent material for files and recognizes the need to call to the attention of superiors.

OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.

NOTE:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Training: You will be required to attend the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Basic Intelligence Training (ICEBIT) course, which is located at the HIS Intelligence Training Center in Rosslyn, Virginia. The five-week course is designed for ICE Intelligence Research Specialists (IRS) and Intelligence Operations Specialists (IOS), providing them with the basic skills necessary to be effective and successful IRSs/IOSs while supporting DHS and ICE missions. Specific intelligence training must be completed according to the standards of the HSI Office of Intelligence. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in either reassignment to a different position, demotion, or separation by appropriate procedures.
