Summary

WHAT DOES A PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST DO? As a Public Affairs Specialist in Internal Communications, you will perform work involved in establishing and maintaining mutual communication between agency leadership and employees across the Service. You will be involved in identifying communication needs and developing and implementing communications that inform appropriate audiences of the agency’s policies, programs, services and activities; and evaluating the effectiveness of information and communications programs.

WHAT IS THE WAGE & INVESTMENT DIVISION? Serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GRADE 14 LEVEL:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes experience with communication principles and techniques evidenced through development and implementation of strategic communication plans and tactics, and writing and reviewing content that conforms to AP Style and IRS writing standards. Experience leading teams, consulting with and providing communication support to executives. Experience with oral communication such as giving presentations and coaching other presenters including executives. Experience developing and implementing communications related to sensitive topics such as labor relation issues.

-The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or VolunteerService. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

In addition to the above requirements, you must have been at the GS-13 level for 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement).

  • Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours or telework may be available.
  • Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m, start time may be negotiable.
