Summary

Records disclosure requests within the office's jurisdiction, identify responsive documents, redact documents as appropriate, and prepare written responses for signature by the District Director or appropriate Enforcement Manager.

Duties

Help

As a Government Information Specialist you will perform the following duties:

  • Research, analyze and evaluate data and determine whether disclosure of information is legally permissible under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) statute and EEOC disclosure policies.
  • Review and process FOIA requesst for agency records and information.
  • Redact, obscure and/or withhold confidential or privilege information on documents.
  • Prepare FOIA determination letters.
  • Process request for disclosure Section 83 requests.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes work that required researching, analyzing, evaluating data, responding to a variety of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act requests.
OR
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D.
OR
Possess a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above. (The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify for the GS-09 level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education at the master's or equivalent graduate degree or at 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related, is fully qualifying.

Additional information

  • Current federal employees must meet Time-In-Grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • EEOC will not pay travel, transportation and relocation expenses.
  • You may be required to travel and you may be required to apply for a government travel card.
  • A background investigation is required and continued employment is contingent on completion of that process to determine suitability for federal employment.
  • This is a Bargaining Unit position.
