    The Deputy Director, Office of Civil Enforcement (OCE), along with the Office Director, leads and oversees the civil enforcement program that develops, litigates, and settles administrative and civil judicial cases against serious violators of environmental laws.  OCE focuses on targeting violations that present the highest risks to human health and the environment, and taking legal action to address these problems.  Through our vigorous enforcement program, OCE seeks to return the violator to compliance, redress the harm caused by noncompliance, deter future violations, and eliminate financial incentives to noncompliance.

    Specific responsibilities of the Deputy Director, working closely with the Office Director, include:

    • Assisting the Director in exercising technical and administrative direction and control over the office. 
    • Developing enforcement and compliance assurance policies; reviewing, evaluating, and recommending adjustments in Agency policies as appropriate.
    • Ensuring the integration of assigned programs with those of other organizations both within and outside of OCE.
    • Establishing partnerships with various organizations and representing the Agency with such organizations in various meetings and conferences.
