Duties

Help
  • You will review the provider's code assignment for the primary diagnosis and appropraite secondary diagnosis.
  • You will provide accurate statistical data, have a method to retrieve specific information, and document a patient's treatment for current and future medical care.
  • You will review coding and documentation performed by healthcare providers in an outpatient setting.
  • You will provide coding training for providers and assistance with coding template creation and maintenance, both hard copy and electronic.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-08: One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level, such as: Utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E&M coding to reflect the patient's condition, management in the clinic and complexity of the medical decision making process; assigning Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPS) as applicable for each outpatient encounter visit; teaching and conducting formal instruction on outpatient medical coding to healthcare providers and clinic managers; assisting providers with computerized patient record system navigation and template building; identifying erroneous data from medical reports, such as documentation discrepancies, missing information, and providing corrective action

To qualify for the GS-07: One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 level, such as: utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E&M coding to reflect the patient's condition, management in the clinic and complexity of the medical decision making process; assigning Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPS) as applicable for each outpatient encounter visit; assisting in the preparation of training and instructions of outpatient medical coding to healthcare providers and clinic manager; assisting providers with computerized patient record system navigation; researching medical reports looking for information, such as documentation discrepancies, missing information, and providing corrective action

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor needed in order to qualify. The actual selective placement factor is must possess a High School Diploma or GED certificate and posses current certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)-or- possess current certification from the Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H). Possession of the factor must be verifiable by submitting a copy of the current American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or from the Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) certification with your application.
