Serve as program technical advisor developing methods and selecting techniques to conduct methodological research to improve sample surveys or experimental designs.
Design, develop, and apply mathematical techniques to statistical research related to methodology used in research, and evaluate the results.
Provide advice and assistance for statistical projects or studies that are new or significant departures from the relationships established in previous problems, studies, or investigations, causing outcomes that are usually original in nature.
Communicate information to various audiences.
Write statistical and analytic reports from major studies and continuing projects; and disseminates results of research projects in a wide range of venues including manuscripts, and special reports.

Qualifications
Basic Qualification Requirements for Mathematical Statistician, GS-1529-12:
A. You must have a degree that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics; OR
B. You must have a combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
You must meet the additional, Minimum Qualification Requirements for Mathematical Statistician, GS-1529-12/13, as described below:
For GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience at/or equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience applying the principles, methods and techniques of sample survey design, mathematical statistics, or survey research.
For GS-13: You have one year of specialized experience at/or equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience providing consultation and assistance in applying the principles, methods and techniques of sample survey design, mathematical statistics, or survey research; and collecting, analyzing and interpreting complex scientific data.
Education
Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
