This position is located in the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG), Mission Support Team (MST), Logistics Management Office (LMO). The incumbent is responsible for implementing and managing Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) programs for OIG offices within and outside the National Capital Region (NCR) and inside and outside CONUS to comply with mission and regulatory requirements.

Duties

Help

Duties as an Safety and Occupational Health Specialist Specialist include but are not limited to:

  • Inspects or evaluates facilities used by OIG employees for compliance with safety requirements, prepares reports, and recommends corrective action
  • Coordinates safety and occupational health programs with external agencies
  • Implements and maintains Emergency Preparedness Programs including the Occupant Emergency Plan
  • Establishes and coordinates training for employees to respond to emergencies
  • Performs risk management consultation
  • Maintains program records and documentation
  • Trains employees on safety, occupational health, and emergency preparedness
  • Assists in maintaining budget and financial information for the program and works with contractors and acquisitions to support the program

The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.
Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG). Organizational entities with the DoD are not required to conduct drug testing for DoD civilian employees moving by transfer or reassignment from one DoD Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another TDP with no break in service within the DoD, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis by the gaining Component.
Military retirees seeking to enter civil service in the Department of Defense now require a waiver if they are within 180 days following their official date of retirement (5 United States Code 3326.).

Qualifications

You may qualify for the GS-12 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications requirements:

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-11 level in the federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: Performing routine inspections of DoD or Federal facilities; performing assignments in Occupant Emergency Plan maintenance and implementation; maintaining records related to the program; providing routine training to employees and answering questions; maintaining program documentation; maintaining and reporting budget and financial information; and working with contractors involved in safety and occupational health programs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Only experience obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
