The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is the statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy. EIA collects, analyzes, and disseminates independent and impartial energy information to promote sound policymaking, efficient markets, and public understanding of energy and its interaction with the economy and the environment. EIA is the nation's premier source of energy information and, by law, its data, analyses, and forecasts are independent of approval by any other officer or employee of the U.S. government.
EIA has four program functions:
- The Office of Resource Technology Management directs a variety of corporate business activities including EIA's independent information technology infrastructure and data center operation, budget and financial management, procurement oversight and processing, human capital management, and logistical support.
- The Office of Energy Statistics conducts a wide range of survey, statistical methods, and integration activities related to: energy consumption and efficiency; electricity; nuclear and renewable energy; oil, gas and coal supply; and petroleum and biofuels.
- The Office of Energy Analysis analyzes energy supply, demand, and prices including the impact of financial markets on energy markets; prepares reports on current and future energy use; analyzes the impact of energy policies; and develops advanced techniques for conducting energy information analyses.
- The Office of Communications oversees a comprehensive energy information dissemination program that provides high quality information in a timely manner that can be accessed by all types of EIA's public and private audiences.
This is an EXCEPTED SERVICE position.
As an Industry Economist, you will:
- Perform economic analyses, which may require you to modify/adapt techniques and use innovative approaches.
- Compile, organize and analyze data, identify significant variables and underlying relationships.
- Evaluate impact of new technologies, systems and policies.
- Plan, design, and conduct or monitor tests to obtain data.
- Prepare reports and charts to document study purposes, methods, premises and conclusions.
Occasional travel - Travel may be required for meetings/training and/or rotational assignment.
