Duties

Help

  • Serves as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional standards and measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
  • Provides calibration traceability through the Army Calibration Laboratory and Army Primary Standards Laboratory to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and provide information on TMDE accuracy's and uncertainties under a variety of conditions.
  • Performs repairs incidental to calibration as required by equipment specifications.
  • Selects, applies, and interprets electronic principles and practices as related to the specialty area as required to collect, reduce, display, analyze data, and provide metrology information for a wide variety of general purpose TMDE. Uncertainties are computed and assigned through application and understanding of statistical methods.
  • Prepares reports to correct errors in existing procedures and provides technical information used in the decision making process for the development of documents used for TMDE certification.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform precision measurement equipment calibration basic repair of test equipment and related components and use high precision standards, (e.g., multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes). I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen-Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Troubleshooting
  • The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
  • The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
