Summary

The employee is responsible for carrying out research and publications, developing and managing collections, developing exhibitions, furthering education and outreach and providing public service by responding to inquiries about the history of computing, computer gaming, and information sciences.
Researches the history of computers, computer gaming, and information sciences and technology through objects and collections as well as traditional sources of documentation in areas that stretch from the mid twentieth century to the present.
Assists the Division to collect, manage, and interpret large and diverse collections that provide the basis for interpreting the history of computers, computer gaming, and information sciences and technology in the context of the American experience.
Plays a role in helping to curate the Museum’s exhibitions on the history of computers, computer gaming, and information sciences and technology from an American perspective.
Assists with the development of public programs on the history of computers, computer gaming, and information sciences and technology.
Maintain a Bank Account for Direct Deposit/Electronic Transfer

Qualifications
Museum Curator Educational Requirements (GS-1015 Series):
All applicants must meet these Basic Educational Requirements: (You must submit unofficial school transcripts):
1. Degree: history of science, history, American Studies; museum work in an applicable subject-matter field; or
2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education; or
3. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study.

In addition to the Basic Educational Requirements listed above, you may qualify for this position if you possess the Selective Factor and Specialized Experience below:
Selective Factor: Experience as a scholar of the History of computers, computer gaming and information sciences from an American perspective. This is demonstrated through a wide variety of public and scholarly research products including exhibitions, collections, books, articles, blogs, catalogs or monographs as well as programs and other media.
Specialized Experience: In addition to meeting the Selective Factor above, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience. You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined asexperience is defined as having scholarly knowledge of the history of computers, computer gaming and information sciences from an American perspective.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
