Duties

Help
  • - Reviews assigned reports and other written materials for consistency of mechanics and expression, logical organization and development, and general readability.
  • - Reviews reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other written products and recommends edits as required for readability, tone and style to be suitable for the intended audience.
  • - Recommends and discusses with the author(s) editorial changes designed to enhance the clarity of the information, grammatical accuracy, and consistency of final presentation.
  • - Provides editorial recommendations to ensure reports are written in a way that supports report findings, conclusions and recommendations; and that conclusions and recommendations correspond to the job.
  • - Independently develops complex training to advise writers on how to recognize and correct common errors and weaknesses in writing.

  • Position has been designated as Special Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) security clearance.
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with Department of Defense (DoD OIG).
  • If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.
  • Position(s) may be filled by displaced Department of Defense (DoD) employees through the Priority Placement Program.

Qualifications

You may qualify for the GS-13 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications requirements:

Specialized Experience: You must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. Experience includes writing, reviewing, and editing materials such as reports, regulations, articles, newsletters, magazines, news releases, policy, training materials, brochures, interpretive handbooks, pamphlets, guidebooks, scholarly works, reference works, speeches or scripts to ensure clarity, spelling, grammar and punctuation; the work requires assisting staff to present material in a way that is appropriate and understandable to the intended audience; presenting documentation by following specific styles and formats (such as APA, GPO or MLA.); write and edit speeches; new presentation formats and editorial changes. Operates in a SharePoint environment, editing and writing PowerPoint presentations, web pages, and other media in support of Audit's mission. Independently develops complex training material on report preparation, writing techniques, and technical writing matters and provides said training.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, or AmeriCorps) and other organizations (for example, professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

All qualification and time-in-grade (if applicable) requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Only experience and/or education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

There is no substitution of education for experience at this level.

Comprehensive knowledge of editorial practices.
Knowledge of broad range of sources of information and skill in analyzing and presenting information effectively to diverse audiences using diverse media, often on complex or controversial subjects.
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and desktop publishing software.
Broad knowledge of the DoD and OIG mission skill in editing, plus knowledge of various Federal and DoD Guidelines and policies.
High level of interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
