This position serves as a member of the Project Mitigation Team in the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA’s) Office of Planning, Environment, and Realty (HEP), Office of Project Development and Environmental Review (HEPE) located in Washington DC. The Project Mitigation Team is responsible for the development of FHWA policies, regulations, procedures, and guidelines, and the delivery of technical assistance related to natural resource protection and consideration of ecological impacts in the transportation decision-making process.
As a staff professional, you will formulate policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines, advise on program goals and objectives, and provide technical advice and guidance, and program oversight to FHWA field offices, State departments of transportation, local agencies, and consultants (during the development of project concepts, transportation facility location studies, and environmental documents) to ensure conformance to Federal requirements.
Ideal Candidate Statement: At the full performance level, the ideal candidate is a well-qualified professional with extensive experience in environmental analysis, providing innovative recommendations for advancing projects and programs. The candidate has experience establishing and maintaining effective cooperative working relationships with key individuals in and outside the Federal government. The candidate is an expert in transportation planning and environmental issues, specifically pertaining to cutting-edge, complex initiatives and research to accelerate transportation project development.
