The selectee(s) for this position will serve as an Interlocutory Attorney.
As an Interlocutory Attorney in the TTAB, the duties are, but not limited to:
Analyzing the legal issue in question, developing the strategy to deal with the legal issue, and determining the content and means of delivery of the completed analysis of the legal issue.
Managing interlocutory matters in oppositions, cancellations and concurrent use cases at the TTAB.
As a recognized expert in the procedural and substantive aspects of the law, mentors and coaches others.
Independently deciding and issuing orders on all procedural and substantive motions that are not potentially dispositive of the proceeding, such as motions to amend pleadings, motions to compel and motions to strike evidence.
Consulting with and drafting decisions for Administrative Trademark Judges on all procedural and substantive motions that are potentially dispositive of the proceeding, such as motions to dismiss, motions for judgment on the pleadings, and motions for summary judgment.
Working with Administrative Trademark Judges and the top management of the TTAB, as well as the top management and/or attorneys of other private and public organizations.

Qualifications
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has not issued qualification standards for attorney positions. However, the USPTO sets minimum qualifications for attorney positions and sets forth these qualifications in each vacancy announcement.
You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.
To be eligible for this position, you must:
1. Be a U.S. Citizen or National
2. Meet the following education requirements: possess at least a Masters of Law (LL.M.) degree or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
3. Be a current member of the Bar in Good Standing of any state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or any U.S. territory.
4. Meet the requirements for the Professional experience as defined.
5. Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
GS-14
Candidates for the GS-14 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level is experience performing a focused (a portion or one segment of a case with multiple issues) legal analysis and research in the area of trademark law, conducting legal analysis of procedural and substantive arguments from legal counsel or pro se parties in the area of trademark law, and drafting legally defensible opinions addressing the issues raised by said counsel or parties with minimal guidance.
GS-15
Candidates for the GS-15 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower GS-14 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience at the GS-15 grade level is experience performing comprehensive (full spectrum of a case with multiple issues) legal analysis and research in the area of trademark law, conducting legal analysis of procedural and substantive arguments from legal counsel or pro se parties in the area of trademark law, and independently drafting legally defensible opinions addressing the issues raised by said counsel or parties.
In addition to the specialized experience described above, applicants must have the following minimum years of Professional Law/Legal Experience (post J.D.):
GS-14: At least three (3) years of Professional Experience
GS-15: At least four (4) years of Professional Experience
Professional Legal/Law Experience: Professional legal/law experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Legal work is described as extremely complex and difficult and requires a high order of original and creative legal endeavor in balancing conflicting interests; has broad or wide-scope impact on an economy, industry, private or public interests; and may involve directly or indirectly very large sums of money. Work may also involve acting as principal attorney in charge of the preparation and presentation of cases; recommending policies and developing procedures and regulations to implement new or amended legislation; and acting as legal, general or senior counsel to a major firm or organization.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
