Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Medicare (CM, Medicare Drug Benefit & C&D Data Group (MDBG), Div of Formulary and Benefit Operations (DFBO).

As a Pharmacist, GS-0660-13, you will serve as a Pharmacist responsible for the development, monitoring, and evaluation of regulations, policies, procedures, and other guidelines for the Medicare prescription drug benefit under the Medicare Part D program.

Duties

Help
  • Serve as a professional pharmacist developing Medicare prescription drug policy including classification of drugs, competitive bidding, and clinical review of new drugs and other medications.
  • Lead in the development of regulation, policies and other guideline material of a highly specialized and detailed nature requiring technical knowledge of the field of pharmacy.
  • Consult with experts in the medical and scientific fields to obtain guidance in targeting issues of concern pertaining to medical practice and the development of analytic methods.
  • Prepare responses to highly technical inquiries about various aspects of law, regulations, policies, etc. from Congresspersons, professional organizations, and the general public, contributing technical knowledge necessary to respond to inquiries.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) utilizing pharmacy concepts, principles, or practices to improve pharmacy operations, prescription drug benefit delivery, or pharmaceutical care; (2) performing analysis of data related to pharmacy operations or prescription drug benefit issues to assess the quality or effectiveness of program operations or health outcomes; (3) assisting in the development of programs to monitor or assess pharmacy operations, prescription drug benefits, or pharmaceutical care ( e.g., pharmacy administrative or operational reports, medication therapy management (MTM), patient safety, quality and performance measurement, or drug utilization management).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

License/Registration Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must possess the following license/registration: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States..
