The incumbent serves as a Forest Assistant Fire Management Officer (FFMO). This position is responsible for providing leadership, coordination and oversight for the administration of fire prevention programs, dispatching services, fuels/vegetation management, aviation management, fire suppression activities and the integration of fire and aviation management plans and activities with other natural resource program areas.

Assists the Forest Fire Management Officer (FFMO) in directing a fire management program with a high complexity level. Responsible for coordinating and development of overall long-range Forest planning; develops new techniques and methods or modifies existing procedures to solve unprecedented or critical fire management problems; coordinating the accomplishment of the unit’s fire management activities, program direction, coordination and evaluation of the fire management program; and for the unit’s fire training program. Coordinates the involvement of fire management input into the development of land management plans and analyses.
Responsible for the review of planned suppression actions, tactical plans, and strategies for the management of complex wildland fires and other wildland urban interface/intermix situations.
Responsible for coordinating complex wildland fire suppression operations with cooperating agencies on large fires with great potential for damage to resources and improvements and high risk to human safety.
Provides leadership and program oversight of the unit’s Fire Prevention Program and integration with other fire management activities.
Provides leadership and program oversight to the unit’s aviation program. Responsible for the preparation of contract specifications and inspections for rotor and fixed wing aircraft.
Provides program oversight to the unit or interagency Dispatch Center and coordinates with interagency partners.
Responsible for accomplishment of the unit’s annual targets in fuels and vegetation management.
Performs wildfire suppression support as directed within training and physical and other duties as assigned. Duties listed are at the full performance level.

The arduous, moderate, or light WCT is dependent on the incumbent’s NWCG (National Wildfire Coordinating Group) incident management qualifications required for their IFPM or FS-FPM position. This announcement constitutes the required 30 days advanced notice for testing requirements.
This position has been identified as High or Moderate or Low Complexity under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) or Forest Service Fire Program Management (FS-FPM) and is subject to selective placement factor requirements contained in the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard and Guide when filling this vacancy. IFPM or FS-FPM selective placement factors are made up of a primary and secondary National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) core Incident Management Qualifications and Required Training. The applicant must possess these qualifications at the applicable complexity level to be considered eligible for this position.
In order to be considered for this position, copies of your Incident Qualification and Certification System (IQCS) Master Record (or equivalent training documents) which contain documented proof of the certification or attainment of the IFPM Selective Placement Factor for this position MUST be attached to your application.
