Major duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:
Serves as a spokesperson. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with representatives of the print and broadcast media as well as with national, state and local government agencies and outside labor and private organizations interested in all aspects of Department programs, including labor-management relations, employment and training, occupational safety and health, labor statistics, workers' compensation, federal contract compliance, wage-hour and other agencies' enforcement activities.
Responds, orally or in writing, in both English and Spanish, to requests for information or assistance from the news media or various segments of the private sector.
Plans, develops and writes news releases, articles, op-eds, blogs, letters-to-the-editor, and other messages for the Secretary and other Departmental officials, publications and other communication materials addressing DOL's policies, programs or issues.
Develops, establishes and executes social media planning and outreach initiatives through various communication networking tools. Develops and executes measurement and analysis of social media content.
Reviews and evaluates a wide range of public affairs materials; analyzes the content and presentation style to determine whether material meets the objective and scope of the assignment in terms of coverage, balance, suitability of expression and presentation as well as factual accuracy and conformance to DOL policy.
Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
Appointment to this position may require a background investigation.

Qualifications
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience serving as a media spokesperson and establishing professional relationships with Spanish-language news media, and extensive knowledge of different communication mediums, including the ability to translate news releases, blogs and other materials from English to Spanish, as well as participate in or staff news media interviews with Spanish-language media sources. Applicants for this position must have experience initiating, coordinating and producing content for Spanish-language publications, broadcasts, and social/digital platforms.
Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience requirement, this position has a selective placement factor. In order to qualify for this position you must have experience responding orally and in writing, in English and Spanish to requests for information or assistance from the news media or the public.
