Duties

Help

As an Epidemiologist, you will:

  • Oversee contracts, grants, awards or cooperative agreements with full responsibility for carrying out all required monitoring and management duties.
  • Serve as technical consultant on contracts for scientific services.
  • Perform duties such as: writes statements of work, serves on technical review panels for contract proposals, and monitors contracts for quality assurance and quality control.
  • Design, plan and initiate epidemiologic studies, surveys, and investigations.
  • Participate in various aspects of the study or survey design process, including conducting a search or review of the existing literature and data in a specialty area, and preparing and/or presenting summaries for a variety of purposes.
  • Monitor internal review board clearances and design questionnaires and other data collection instruments.
  • Serve as a national or internationally recognized consultant and expert on epidemiological issues on critical problems in the field of epidemiology.
  • Evaluate data collection, quality control, and data utilization methods used to study epidemiological problems and issues.
  • Identify or develop appropriate intervention methods to identify, treat or resolve various medical issues or problems.
  • Serve as a project coordinator and recommends resources for epidemiologic projects.
  • Review and approve the substance of reports, decisions, case documents, contracts, or other action documents to ensure that policies accurately reflect the position of the organization and the views of the agency.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience leading and collaborating on surveillance or epidemiologic research activities and conducting and disseminating multivariable data analysis.

Education

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
