About the Position: This position is with the Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. As a Faculty Member (Supervisory) you will present graduate-level lectures, seminars and other instruction to CGSC resident and extended campus course students on CGSOC common core and Advance Operations Course (AOC) curriculum courses. operational through strategic levels, to students attending the CGSC, Intermediate Level Education (MEL4) Course.

Duties

Help
  • Exercises supervisory responsibility for a CGSOC teach team of approximately 12 -13 members consisting of military historians, tactician, joint operations specialist, logisticians and leadership developers.
  • Ensures adherence to the organizations overall plan, mission, vision and values are communicated and integrated into strategies, goals and objectives.
  • Assigns tasks and reviews work products and accepts, amends or rejects the work. Establishes performance standards and evaluates subordinates' performance in meeting the standards. Supports the college faculty development program
  • Ensure that individual members of the team have received appropriate CGSC and Department specific faculty development training.
  • Function as first-line assessor/evaluator in support of CGSC Quality Assurance Program. Principle proponent for producing concrete feedback for the Director, CGSS with a view on improving all aspects of CGSOC operations, curriculum, and personnel.
  • Performs liaison and interacts with faculty of colleges, universities and agencies to exchange concepts and ideas of mutual benefit.
  • Assistant instructor in joint operations, logistics, tactical warfighting, military history or leadership as required. Develops other specified skills as required in order to provide the team self-sufficiency in required expertise.

  • The work is normally performed in classrooms and offices at Ft Leavenworth or distance education site. Assignment to distance education instruction may entail TDY that exceeds 90 days up to 15%
  • Incumbent must have achieved Military Education Level 4 or Joint Professional Military Education level 1 (Command and General Staff Officers Course or another sister service Intermediate level education course).
  • Incumbent may be required to work evenings and weekends and occasional shift work.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Education Requirement: In order to basically qualify, you must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in a regionally accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree that included a major field of study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

-AND-

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience experience in joint assignment or joint/multinational operations; operations or planning at the brigade, division or higher operational level; teaching command and/or leadership to military officers; teaching military history to military officers; force sustainment at the division or higher operational level, that will equip me with the ability to lead a multi-disciplined team of 12 faculty members teaching ten-month resident CGSOC.

Appropriate combination of education and experience. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation; therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: In order to be minimally qualified applicants MUST possess a Master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Joint Operations and Army Doctrine
  • Teaching small group facilitation
  • Knowledge of/experience in joint, interagency, and multinational operations
  • Knowledge of/experience in operations/planning at the brigade, division or higher operational level
  • Teaching command and/or leadership and Military history to Military Officers
  • Knowledge of/experience in force sustainment at the division or higher operational level Leadership experience
  • Knowledge of Operational and Tactical Levels of War and Knowledge of Logistics and Force Management (experience putting into practice)
  • Competency in curriculum development, Competency in assessing graduate level course work (experience as a educator)
