What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.

Salary:GS-09: $55,909 (Step 01) to $72,683 (Step 10)

NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Help

As an Information Specialist within the Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Assisting scientific projects to improve communication by working with USGS facilities to create documents & web pages including video & multimedia materials.
  • Meets with local and regional stakeholder groups to convey knowledge of USGS activities and products.
  • Provides technical assistance and training for use of USGS developed software applications and databases.
  • Participating in public events to provide information about USGS.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of communication efforts and develops communication plans.

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?

  • Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. For GS-09:



Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-09 level: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education (36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours) leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field of study which provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

**OR one year of appropriate professional experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience may include: writing, editing, and producing publication and outreach materials tailored to specific media and audiences; developing marketing plans and materials; researching, writing, and editing, press releases and feature articles; and arranging public information activities.
