OIG is organized into three line elements: the Offices of Investigations, Audits and Evaluations, and Healthcare Inspections; along with the Office of Contract Review and the Office of Management and Administration. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 30 cities throughout the country.
The Supervisory Criminal Investigator, located in the Office of Investigations (OI), serves as a Special Agent in Charge (SAC) in the Investigative Development Division, and is responsible for leading and developing proactive initiatives regarding programs within VA that are highly susceptible to fraud and other criminal conduct.

As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator, you will:
-Direct a full range of oversight and critical support functions in support of OI’s mission and goals.
-Lead and conduct investigations and addresses matters involving violations of laws and regulations relating to federal law enforcement programs.
-Manage criminal and administrative operations conducted from multiple offices in the region that provide investigative services to VA Medical Centers, Regional Offices, and other VA entities located in a number of states and encompassing multiple judicial districts.
-Lead initiatives in developing crime prevention strategies and implementing liaison activities relating to VA programs and operations with VA officials, local and VA police, Department of Justice prosecutors, and other federal law enforcement agencies.
-Formulate and execute budgets and oversees service contracts in support of law enforcement operations.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.

- Complete a pre-employment medical examination, unless already working in a position covered under 5 USC 8336(c) with another Federal law enforcement agency and have passed a physical exam within the previous 6 months. Prior to appointment, the selectee must be determined to be physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties such as making arrests, conducting surveillances, using firearms, etc., and also pass a medical examination (which includes vision, hearing, cardiovascular, mobility of extremities, and other factors) given by an authorized government physician. Any physical condition that would cause the selectee to be a hazard to herself/himself or others is disqualifying. You may be required to provide medical or related documentation to Federal Occupation of Health at the time of the pre-employment physical. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
- Complete or have previously completed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA OR its equivalent.
- Agree to work an average of two extra hours per day. Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) has been approved to compensate for unscheduled duty in excess of the 40-hour workweek.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license from one of the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
- Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
