The Pathways Student Internship Program provides students currently enrolled in high school, college, trade school or other qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in civil service agencies and explore Federal careers while completing their education. This Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to gain experience and knowledge while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service.

The primary purpose of these positions is to develop and perform the skills needed in a variety of Federal Wage System positions which support Tinker's maintenance, repair and overhaul, and production efforts in support of the war fighter. The actual duties of each position depend on the area of study, the candidate's interest in a particular vocation, or the needs of the organization.
New appointments shall be made at the minimum rate of the appropriate grade unless regulatory guidance permits otherwise. This register is being established and may be used to fill:
(A) Full or part-time positions on a temporary basis for up to one year for an initial period (with option of extension per needs of the Organization
(B) Full or part-time positions for an indefinite period to complete an educational requirement
(C) Full or part-time summer positions not to exceed 30 September 2018.

PATHWAYS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions require a specific degree or coursework such as engineers, contract specialists, financial management, etc.; interns appointed to these positions are required to be graduated from or enrolled in a directly related degree program/curriculum in accordance with their participant agreement.
CURRENT STUDENTS: At the time of application, Student Interns are required TO BE ENROLLED or HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED for enrollment and seeking a degree, diploma or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a FULL OR HALF-TIME basis. NOTE: Copies of your transcripts and a current proof of enrollment letter are required at the time of application to be considered for this program. The enrollment letter can be obtained from your school.
All certificates and official transcripts will be required at the time of selection.
Job requirements as a Student Intern:
· Sign a Participant Agreement
· Attend school while working at Tinker AFB
· Work part-time or full-time while attending school
· Commute daily to work at Tinker AFB
· Complete 640 hours of OJT while attending school
To be eligible for conversion, Student Interns must:
· Complete 640 hours of work experience (On-The-Job Training) acquired through the Internship Program
· Complete and obtain degree or certificate/licensing requirements
· Meet qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
· Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the signed Participant's Agreement
· Demonstrate successful job performance
Program Completion and Conversion Requirements: Current Student Interns may be converted to a permanent position, or term position lasting 1-4 years, within 120 days of successful completion of the program.

This is a Pathways Student Internship opportunity which offers valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of study. This is your opportunity to begin a successful Federal civilian career with the United States Air Force. As an Intern, you will be given the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a successful career with the US Air Force and upon completing your degree and meeting conversion eligibility requirements, be eligible for placement in a permanent position. However, it is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee you will be offered a permanent position. The length of Internship is normally two years or when you complete your academic program and degree requirements.

Additional information for Interns selected and assigned to the 76th Software Maintenance Group (SMXG) on Tinker Air Force base: 76th SMXG brings a broad scope of systems engineering and software sustainment expertise and capability to the Department of Defense. As the largest Engineering organization on Tinker Air Force base, the 76th SMXG provides software, hardware, and engineering support solutions on a variety of Air Force weapon systems and platforms.
The eight-week summer pathways program for 1st year Interns at 76th SMXG consists of:
1) Training rotations through every division in SMXG
2) Individual and team projects in the areas of electronics and software design
3) Job shadowing and mentorship opportunities
4) Career development workshops
5) Leadership speaker series
6) STEM camps for 4th to 8th grades in the larger Oklahoma City area.
7) Guided tours of facilities and labs at Tinker Air Force Base
Areas of focus for training during the summer program:
1) Test Program Set (TPS) development cycle which includes circuit analysis, hardware design, software design and troubleshooting
2) Agile with Scrum process
3) Overview of Android IDE, Java programming language, and XML interfacing
4) Linux development environment and command-line processing
5) C++ Programming
6) High performance computing
