Duties

Help
  • Performs aerospace engineering assignments.
  • Performs aerospace engineering work of limited scope and complexity in support of projects assigned by senior engineers; supports process improvement initiatives within the organization.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and professional developments to maintain currency in the field and for application to work assignments.
  • Uses engineering manuals, publications, and technical materials to obtain information used by senior engineers, contractors, and/or customers; follows security regulations and ensures classified material is controlled and secured at all times.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-07- One year of specialized experience performing aerospace engineering tasks and projects applying knowledge of work processes and standard aerospace engineering practices, rules and procedures of limited scope and difficulty which are screened by senior engineers In the Federal service equivalent to the GS-5.
GS-09- One year of specialized experience performing routine and recurring aerospace engineering assignments whereby I am required to make independent decisions drawn upon well-established approaches, criteria, and practices while applying typical engineering calculations and considerations int the Federal service equivalent to the GS-7.
GS-11- One year of specialized experience encompassing aerospace engineering work involving conventional projects; developing written summaries and reports, participating in complex studies, researching problems and issues to identify cause, develop solutions, collecting and analyzing information and data while applying various disciplines in the Federal service equivalent to the GS 9.
GS-12- One year of specialized experience as an aerospace engineer performing work encompassing areas of aviation, aerospace defense systems, components, and/or associated equipment in support of the acquisition, development, or sustainment of weapons systems and subsystems; employing scientific and engineering principles to design, develop, test, evaluate, and/or determine maintenance requirements; developing evaluations and technical justifications, presenting briefings and applying emerging technology and business practices to implement a course of action, validate and direct resources, and integrate logistics and/or acquisition functions in the Federal service equivalent to the GS-11.

NOTE: This experience may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service and/or government service, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Professional knowledge of aerospace engineering policies, theories, principles, and concepts and familiarity with other engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply aerospace engineering rules and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior engineers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software applications.
  • Knowledge of air-vehicles, ground systems, and support equipment to sufficiently plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of aerospace vehicles and systems.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
